Unfortunately, wait; fortunately, he was stuck in the parking garage at the hospital with a flat tire. So, he got to go back in and find out a little bit more about it before he headed home on is spare tire for the big birthday celebration for Zackary. Yes, that's right we have a 10 year old! Double digits; makes me feel nostalgic for those days when he was days old and even an ice cube on his nose wouldn't wake him to eat.
Sam is currently headed back to the hospital to relieve our dear friend who took the entire day to be with Malachi so we could give Zackary a family birthday. I'll fill in details as I know them, but for now what I know is there is a window, and a bench/cot/bed thing for the parent to sleep on. Yes indeed we get to stay right in the room with our little guy, unlike the NICU where you are not kicked out at night, but you are not allowed to sleep in the room and they sure don't make it very possible either. So we are excited that Sam might get a bit more sleep at night and when Malachi is given the all-clear to breast feed ad-lib I will be able to be a round the clock mom to my little one. I can't wait.
Here's to 10 year olds that are not in the least bit upset about a different birthday than was originally planned, and step-down units that give us so much hope that we are on the downward slope of this here journey. Here's to life with my dear husband and sweet children and all the fabulous people that are doing so much for us at this time.
Happy Birthday sweet Zackary, you are amazing, wonderful, kind, and true. Keep being you and oh the places you will go!
