The surgery was a success. First of it's kind, I'll explain more later.
Recovery was not going so well. We seem to have turned a corner now, with morphine every three hours for pain management his heart rate is back down to a reasonable range. The morphine delays the recovery process though. We will know more as the hours pass. It's quite hard to see our little baby in so much pain and distress, but we are hopeful that the light at the end of the tunnel is just around the corner. Hope with us please.
Now we wait - for what? Poop, that's what. As soon as he proves that he can fill his diaper they will start feeding him again (5 mls every three hours) and see how it goes. Of course the bowels have to awaken from a 6 hour surgery first and the morphine helps keep them asleep, so again, we wait and hope that he will be able to tolerate things without morphine soon. But until then we are happy to see him comfortable for a couple of hours at a time until the meds start wearing off.
More details will come I promise. Right now I just need to get back to my baby. Just wanted to let you all know.
