Louisiana

We have seen and experienced many a strange thing around these here parts.  Here's one.  We spent the first year trying to figure out what these things were.  They are everywhere, people's yards, soccer fields,  parks, everywhere.  At first conclusion we thought giant mutated mole crickets (of which they have many around here).  We were completely wrong.  Any guesses? And no cheater southern folk either!
