Zack had his second special musical number today in sacrament meeting at church. It was so fun to see him up there feeling the music and making it his own. It is heartwarming to watch, and listen, to him as he performs with such love for what he is doing. Ellie had a beaming smile and a very loud, "Wow Zack. You did such great playing!" Addie's tribute was to hum, or rather blah, to the tune of his piece loudly enough for all to hear, and to interrupt the speaker, minutes after he was done :) Jacob was grateful that it helped him think about Jesus. And Sam and I, well, let's just say you couldn't have wiped the smiles off our faces if you tried. What a great experience.
While we were preparing for Gustav and the evacuation Zackary was fairly distraught, he has a tendency to be quite a worrier. As we were talking about things to bring, Jacob mentioned his violin. Zack then lamented the fact that his instrument is too big to be brought along anywhere and followed with this, "Whenever I am upset, in a bad mood, or angry I want to play spiritual songs on the piano. It helps me feel better." He 'played' on his knees, the back of the van seat, anywhere he could really and the best part was that even though he didn't really _have_ his instrument, he still had his music.
How great it is to see him recognizing things that bring him peace and comfort. As a mother I often feel for my children and all the circumstances that may come to them in their lives. It is so comforting to know that they are finding lasting joy and peace in things that "neither moth nor rust doth corrupt". I love listening to my little musicians, especially because I know the joy it brings them.

He did a great job and I love that song! I wish it was in the Primary Songbook.
Thanks :) It's his favorite (well, a close tie between that one and Search, Ponder, and Pray, which was his first musical number in sacrament mtg.) I completely agree that it would go well in the Primary Songbook. They have some great new songs in the friend and for programs and such. I wonder if, and when, they will revise the current songbook and add some of those? I'll be excited for sure :)
Good job Zack!!!
I thought Zack did such a great job today! I was really hoping they would do it twice through so I could hear it again. I'm so happy to see him taking joy in music, it has been a comfort to me as well. Way to go Zack!
And I agree with both of you that it should be in the next version of the primary songbook!
Way to go Zach, that's really awesome!
Amy, I gave you a blog award! Go over to my blog to check it out!
What a sweet story. We're so glad you guys escaped the wrath of the hurricane too. Hopefully all is back to normal soon.
What songs is Zack playing?
We sure miss you guys. We are going to have to find a way to visit or something. Thank you for being such an example and being so faithful. We love you.
