Rural Life Museum (June 30, 08)

I _love_ the homeschool network in these here parts :)  There are so many things to participate in; it's great.  My one complaint ... there is so much to do that I often feel conflicted and torn about what to do and not.  I find myself wanting to do everything but knowing that we need to eat and sleep, oh yeah, and actually do school work!  Anyway, we get a great variety of things to do with super discounts and great people.

This trip to the Rural Life Museum in Baton Rouge proved to be one of the best things we have done.  It was like stepping back in time and it brought about some great discussion with the kids on race, racism, and the simple fact that no matter what any society dictates, we are all children of God and are equal in that right.

We are all different and come from backgrounds and circumstances that may be hard to comprehend but we are all the same still.  What matters is not what we have, but rather, what we _do_ with what we have.  We all have the ability to recognize the same spiritual potential that is already within each of us, regardless of how the world judges our temporal well-being. Temporal equality can never be achieved, and actually doesn't matter at all, spiritual equality is closer than any of us realizes.  It is within our ability to recognize that none of us is better than another, for any reason, and allow that to guide our actions; charity in the true sense.  It was an eye opening and poignant discussion, made even sweeter by the fact that I was having it with my children.  I will forever remember it, I hope.

A fabulous time was had by all and I hear they have an amazing time in December so we will definitely head back.  From the van picnic, to the guided tour, the kids favorite part was going to jail; what's the facination?  I have no idea, but they loved every minute of every thing and especially that Daddy got to come with us.

Addie was done before any of the rest of us but Mommy, blankie, and binki helped with that. Even better, was the two fisted pickle eating in her car seat, that was what she really wanted; to feel like we were leaving and she'd be able to go to sleep and, of course, her favorite vegetable; pickles! :)
