Yikes it's Ike! We are glad we got to see this one from afar, but it's having an impact even still. Who knew I'd ever be able to say I've seen, and evacuated for, hurricanes?! Not something I ever dreamt of, but then again, my life is really nothing like I thought it would be and everything I hoped all at the same time. Life is funny that way I suppose.
Sam got home from work yesterday and wanted to take us out to see the surge from Ike and feel the winds. The kids thoroughly enjoyed it. Seeing the awe in their faces and hearing it in their voices as they made the connections between; what they have read in books, seen on movies and the computer, and; real life clouds circling above their heads with wind blowing them over as it blows ocean into our lake (and yards, roads, homes, businesses, etc.), was awesome. It's not often as a mom or an educator that you get to see those connections and it surely put a smile on my face :)
We are only getting tropical storm force winds of 35 mph, with gusts (and they are looong gusts!) to 55 mph. I can't imagine what it looked like during Gustav. So glad we were partying in Alabama :) Enjoy our weather warrior photos, these were taken yesterday so it's worse today, but you get the picture, we hope. We are parents first and weather warriors second ;) We won't flood but lots of our friends have, and still will, along with siding lost and roof damage, so we are gearing up to help when Ike is gone. And then there's Galveston ... We are praying that they have all left already and there is no one around there to shoot weather warrior pictures.
