The rest of the story ...

So now I will satisfy the "how to" of Addie's mouth injury.  Somehow, I didn't take the time to stop for pictures, again, where are the reality show camera crews ...

When I got to her all I knew was 4 of her bottom teeth on the right side were laying flat down and jutting out so her mouth could not close.  Hence, the thought that the teeth were knocked out.  I remember saying something like, "What in the world happened, you guys were supposed to be practicing music."  Poor Zackary heard the veiled blame and started trying to explain. Screaming bloody Addie naked dripping bloody mommy running crazy did not equal very good listening.  It wasn't really important anyway.  When I left all I knew was something about falling into the coffee table.  I asked him to explain it to Angie (my friend that came to watch the kids) so we could know what happened.

Having to explain to I don't even remember how many people, that I actually didn't know what happened was .. I don't even know a word for it ..  After it we were home and I was picking up the other kids, Angie told me what Zack had said happened and while he did the best he could to replay and recount, what he was describing just didn't make sense with the type on injury she has.  What he was saying would be more a knocked in situation than a knocked outward situation.  So on the way home I am reassuring him that he is not going to get in trouble and I really just want him to tell me exactly what happened.  He reassures me that he's not worried at all about getting in trouble.  Good, good, that is when honesty happens around here :)  He recounts exactly what he saw and tells me that the other stuff he said to me and Sis. Gardner was just what he thought and what made sense to him because he didn't see much.  Turns out he was filling in the gaps because he thought somehow that would help.  Sweet sweet boy.  He cleaned up the blood on the table while I was dressing and taking care of Addie.

Here is what we know:  Addie is teasing Zackary turning the piano on and off while he is trying to practice.  Nothing new, completely normal.  Zack takes a break to play chase with her thinking it will distract her and he can finish.  They chase for a bit and he sits down to play.  She runs from the front door to the coffee table, he turns to look at her, she's laying belly down on the table facing towards the couch.  He starts to play.  A few seconds later she is screaming he stops and looks at her, goes to help her, sees her teeth stuck on the knob (which he called handle) of the coffee table drawer and comes running and screaming upstairs to get me.  That makes sense and totally fits with what happened to her mouth.

Here is what I have pieced together:  I am baffled at how the amount of force necessary to break bone can come from a 2 year old child so I do everything I can to figure it out.  Addie loves to chew on things.  She still eats crayons, regularly ruins foam bullets and the like from chewing on them, and in general chews on everything.  She is incredibly strong.  I take the drawer out of the coffee table and look at the knob.  Sure enough there are little teeth marks consistent with her biting on it from that belly down position Zack saw her in.  Sure enough there is an eery looking scrape mark that would equal what happened to her mouth.  The way the knob is shaped there is enough of a lip (I guess you'd call it) that it's easy to see how she could have gotten her teeth wedged in there and not been able to get them back off.  Scared and strong she rips herself free and ... blood, horror, and all that followed yesterday.  Who knows if I am right, but for some reason it made me feel better to piece it together.

And now you know what I think I know, but no one will ever really know, and I suppose that is okay.  It is what it is.

Quote of the experience: Zackary as we are headed home late that afternoon,
"I bet you never thought you'd be running around naked and wet with Addie bleeding when you woke up today huh mom?"  Roger that!!

Um, yikes. Having one baby seems so easy and boring all of a sudden. :-)
