Anyway ...
Make no mistake about it folks, we have a long journey ahead. The recovery outcome is unknown and the time frame is anywhere from 6-8 weeks to as long as 3 months. There are a lot of things that have never worked together that have to start communicating and getting along and that takes time. Some things have been working overtime and they have to calm down and recognize there are more players now. Everything has to wake up fully as well; there is immobility to the entire digestive system do to the anesthesia which makes the learning to get along even trickier.
The hardest part is that his little system can't handle the amount of food he needs to thrive. Survive yes, if we are vigilant and make sure to wake him for feedings. Right now we are lucky if he can take in his daily minimum without a little coaxing. We went through this when he first came home though so we know how to deal with it. It's just not very fun. It's tough, I won't lie.
I look at his little fat rolls on his legs and say a little prayer that he won't have to live on those. They sure are cute and ticklish and I just prefer them to little chicken legs. Especially when I would know that they were eaten away because he can't consume enough. Don't get me wrong, I love chicken legs, Zack had them, so did Ellie. I just prefer my babies not have to eat their own fat to stay alive, that's all.
We do know that Malachi is the proud owner of a working colon. There were biopsies aplenty, from every angle possible, to ensure that the absolute best section of his colon was found and that means that whatever outcome he gets is what he'll live with for the remainder of his life. It looks good, very promising. Only time will tell exactly what, if any, his long term daily issues with Hirscshprung's will be.
We are doing what needs to be done, and right now I am very glad that Sam is home for a few more days because it's a full time job to get him through this. Not to mention we are still trying to get fully moved out of the rental house and get it cleaned. Sam has been taking some of the children each day since Monday to get things done. Today was a long day, 9 hours, he's hoping to be done tomorrow. Hopefully. It will be nice to not have that on our plate as well.
Maybe some day we'll get to be all the way moved in here! I am fairly good at ignoring the boxes and seriously unorganized spaces, but it is starting to bother me little bits here and there. All things in their time I suppose.
