What happens when ...

Jacob is an awesome reader.  His little 5 year old brain just spits out words you can't even imagine.  He also loves to cook.  So today he was helping me make our "something to share" for Zackary's piano recital/Gardner family advent night.  He reads and gives me directions as I run around the kitchen, and he scoops or dumps or stirs when he feels like it.  As I am stirring the batter, it seems rather thin.  I remember it being thin but not quite so thin.  Sam reassures me from the other room that it was really thin; "like water thin", I ask. He walks in from around the corner, "Hmm maybe not that thin."  I check the recipe.

My sweet little reader had read the 1 1/2 from the tsp of vanilla line but attached it to the above buttermilk or sour milk line.  So we had triple the amount of milk in the batter.  No wonder it was thin!  I spent the rest of the day (literally, just ask Sam who desperately wanted to be painting but I was frantic baker lady) fixing the batter - finding a bowl that big was tricky. We now have cake, and cupcakes out the wazoo.  I tried to pawn the 9x13 off on Angie at the piano/advent night; she kept it but I have a funny feeling she will bring some back to me in the pan.  I am going visiting teaching tomorrow and will bring treats for sure, but that still leaves me with an over abundance of cake; yes it's yummy but come on!

So now we are a day behind on painting, and Sam is really feeling the deadline looming, but we have chocolate cake.  Texas Sheet cake anyone?  Maybe we could hire a painter/handyman for cake.  Now that's a splendid idea, anyone know anyone that paints for food :)

On another note: Santa delivered our camera last week!  I have no idea why but I am almost scared to use it.  I haven't taken any pictures but have done some video.  It's a great camera so keep your eyes posted for some pictures when I get over whatever phobia I am experiencing at the moment :)
