Well it's up, in all it's glory! Finding it was no easy task. It seems smallish misfit trees are not so easy to come by as Charlie Brown makes it seem, but try we did and a couple of tree places later; tada, the perfect tree. Sorry, no picture, but you'll have to believe me it's a masterpiece.
Luckily it came equipped with a 'secret cave' just perfect for filling in and when it started to tip in the direction of the largest 'family' of ornaments (I am not kidding), it was nothing a little adjustment in the tree stand couldn't fix. Sam was out procuring tape for painting, and candy canes to complete the living artwork while it happened, so I got to play tree holding statue for about 20 minutes until it decided to hold on it's own and then we fixed it when he got home.
I am not sure what Addie will do about the tree being in our home. When Sam brought it in she started screaming and ran to me to be held. She warmed up a little bit when she got to help water it with the other kids, all taking turns emptying cups into the tree stand reservoir. She still wasn't so sure about it though and kept acting as thought it was going to jump out and attack. We shall see what the morning brings. I am sure once she figures out there is something sweet and edible on it she'll be just fine and making her way for the closest stool or anything that can act as one.
It wasn't all fun and games, as Ellie was extremely tired and Jacob decided today would be the day he tested "we do not physically harm others" boundaries, but the Christmas spirit prevailed. Zackary would play Christmas songs and Hymns whenever it started getting tense between them. At one point, while I was in the kitchen I heard, "Is the Christmas spirit here? What are you going to do to bring it back?" Giggles and kindness were heard immediately after. Can I bottle that up somehow?
I write this to the blessed sound of Zackary reading "Twas the Night Before Christmas" to the three oldest as they camp out under the tree tonight. Isn't childhood magical, and isn't adulthood magical when we see it "In the Eyes of a Child" (another great song). I love Christmas :)
