The Caterpillar and The Barrette: a Tragedy

There once was a curious boy,
He thought the world his toy.
Oh dear sweet curious boy.

This is what happens when you find a stray barrette laying around and decide it would look good clipped on to your finger. Please do not ever try this at home. It was a dirty little thing and before I could get to him he'd ripped it off his bity pinky and the pinky tried to come with.

Unfortunately, the pinky was wildly successful.

The stitches are deep and the skin is so tender. Movement means tearing. Ouch. We will see what the prognosis is later today. It's stitch removal day, all 5 of them, and the little digit isn't looking so good still. It's been a rough ten days of not being able to feed himself or go outside. He lives to "do it by self" and be "owside! No iside, OWSIDE!"

I have gotten around the eating by having tea parties with him at the living room table (and if I am feeling really lucky, outside on the porch in chairs). He colors while I feed. Luckily for our outside tea parties, of which have been very few because he quickly tries to escape, a resident daddy longleg hangs out on the stone that faces the front of our home and Malachi is held captive for a bit. He tells stories about the spider's naps, and his dreams, and his cuteness. Cute spider, thank you.

The being outside is much more problematic. He's been appeased with much more Little Einsteins than one could possibly imagine, but hey, it works.

He calls it his caterpillar and talks about how it will be a butterfly. He has a strict "no touch it" rule which has made daily dressing changes tricky.

All in all, he's been a trooper and I hope he gets the stitches out today and can resume his little life.
