Please, Please, Just Buckle Already!

If I can find the answer to the ever posed question of why it takes 5 minutes for a child to buckle into their carseat, somebody give me a medal please.  Whatever happened to the good old days where we just rolled around in the back of the station wagon and got duct taped back together upon arriving at our destination. Those were the days!  Get in, buckle, ready, 1 minute tops!  Not in my van.

A while back, Addie, Malachi, and I were playing taxi driver.  We had just dropped the boys off for their homeschool PE and swimming classes at the YMCA, and were waiting in the parking lot for Ellie's ride to ballet.  I asked her to get buckled because we needed to go immediately after Ellie got picked up because Malachi wasn't doing well and needed to get home.  Ellie left and I turned around to back up.  To my absolute unsurprise (cool word), she was not buckled.  Although unsurprised, I was still able to pull out my best 'I am shocked you have not obeyed me' voice and the following dialogue transpired.

Me: Addie, why aren't you buckled?

Addie: "I don't know Mom!  All the humans are distracting me!"

Those pesky humans.  People watching, what a great pastime.  This is no time for pastimes, this is a time to get buckled! Argh.

Next, I will be working on this little annoyance: How can it possibly take this long to get out of the house, and in the van, when we have been doing it regularly for years?
