Our little 'prodigy'

Okay maybe an overstatement but it's what his teacher said.  All I know is I can't get him to stop playing and he enjoys it so much.  The other day he walked into the kitchen and said, "Look Mom I can play the violin while I am walking backwards!"  And that he did.  He has been taking lessons for about 6 months or so and three weeks ago something happened.

When Zack started violin, it was obvious Jake was left out.  We asked Mr. Wagner if Jake could have a few minutes of the lesson each week and he agreed that for such a little guy 10 minutes would be plenty.  Zackary expressed a desire to quite violin, so we had some decision making to do.  When I was discussing things with Jacob I actually suggested he switch to piano because he's been dying to take ever since Zack started 2 years ago.  Jake's extremely calm and confident reply was, "No, I am not going to stop violin until I know everything about violin." Point taken!  I had to break the news that we didn't have enough money to get him piano lessons too and he promptly set me straight, "You know piano Mom, you can teach me."  Well, not so much, but yes I can play Mary had a little lamb!

The first week with his 'own' lesson was only slightly different, in that, I would call for music practice and before I got the entire sentence out he'd be playing already.  The second week something strange started happening ... for hours, I am serious, he would be playing.  No one said a word to him, he'd just play and play and play.  Week three is not much different.  You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find the right words to tell your child he needs to stop playing his instrument!  He is beside himself with enjoyment and it's so awesome to see.  His new hero is David Klinkenberg and, oh, how I wish we were made of money and could go see him in concert somewhere.  I am sure we will be praying for him to come close enough that we could go!  He loves his 'fiddle', he thinks that's so funny :o), and we are loving seeing him enjoy it so thoroughly.

We'll see what the future holds, it's so amazing to see what happens when kids are allowed to find their brilliance!  What fun, what fun.

How Cute!!! I can picture it now, he's going to be a star!

I was watching the country music awards a couple weeks ago and I was amazed at how many of the bands had violin players in them. It's a great talent to have!
