No wedding is complete without a real dress. She was so excited when I told her we were going to put my real wedding dress on her. We hid in our bedroom and got her all ready and then called the family up for the surprise. Addie couldn't take her eyes off of her and kept saying, "DRESS!" over and over and over. Jacob wanted to marry her and that was okay for a minute, until ... Zackary dressed up like batman. Suddenly, Jacob was out and Zackary was in. Jake took it fairly well, he married me instead.
The best was when I said, "Okay sweet peach it's time to take it off now." The tears were instant and the "No, Mommy!" was frantic. Oh dear what have I done ??? I tired to explain that it was too big and she couldn't move around in it. Didn't matter, "WHY!" was the response. How do I explain why a dress is too big? I tried believe me, didn't matter. I have come to realize with Ellie it's not a matter of wanting to actually know why, it's more like saying, "That's not going to work for me and you are going to spend the next long while trying to convince me otherwise." It didn't really matter to me. She could stay standing on the chair all night.
Eventually she got tired and wanted to move, so we compromised with the veil and my shoes :) The "look" was what Jake got when he made one final attempt to be Ellie's groom, "No, Jakey. I am marrying Zackary. I told you that." Oh well the poor kid's stuck with me, for now anyway.
What fun, what fun. Who knew there would be another purpose for that hunk of material I've been hauling around. I imagine it will become somewhat of a normal thing around here now :)
