Harvesting breakfast

Before you report me to child services for making my children eat their breakfast off the kitchen floor hear me out ...

So Jacob is unloading the dishwasher creating his towers of wonder on every possible inch of horizontal space in the kitchen, Addie is screaming for breakfast, Ellie is desperately trying to get positive attention by doing Jacob's job (which is of course creating a fight between the two), and Zackary is asking 40 million questions a second that are all variations of "I'm starving when is breakfast?"  I am about to lose my marbles and it's only 7:00 a.m..  I manage to find a small spot to place the bag of banana nut cheerios (yum!) while I open the cereal container to pour it into and then it happens ...

Jake's only words, from his little puppy dog face, were, "I am sorry mom, I just needed one more space for my last tower."  It took all my mommy guts to muster, "It's okay Jake just go in the other room while mommy cleans it up, everybody just go in the other room.  Mommy needs to calm down."  They didn't leave.  They kept stepping on cheerios and I felt the volcano building inside; they are wise and could sense the volcano.

Suddenly, they are all geniuses and all at once pounce on the floor and start shoving handfuls into their mouths.  I say, "Oh you guys that's gross the floor is dirty."  Ellie says, "It's not dirty mommy, you just cleaned it up with your mop."  I remind her that was days ago, maybe weeks (I know, I know, I do vacuum it at least once a day though) and no one seems to care.

Zack declares, "I know I'll get bowls and we can just fill them up from the floor!" I give in and the volcano subsides _immediately_.  I then go into quiet reflective mode while they are all so kindly making sure their baby sister gets plenty, from the bag, of course, because, "she's a baby she needs good healthy food." Listening to them I realize that life is fun and their is joy, even in, no especially in, a cheerio spill to beat all cheerio spills.

Note to self: Open cereal bag _after_ cereal container.

P.S. I have a ton of blogging to catch up on but we started school two weeks ago, soccer for both boys this past week, Sam was in CA for the week, and we start all of our scheduled homeschool activities (ie. PE, presentation day, I am volunteering to teach the 3 year old playschool class for a mother's club I belong to, KEEP classes for Zack, Art/Lit class for the boys, spanish, music, oh the list goes on, not to mention field trips, bowling, park days and a new co-op idea that is floating around).  So, I am in major essentials only mode and blogging is not an essential.  I do love it though, and will get with the program as soon as my brain stops bouncing around.
