Did you know that's a thing? Think rock climbing but with trees rather than cliffs and mountain faces. Ropes, harnesses, safety knots, facilitators, helmets, gloves, and some daring children (and a few adults).
Our local nature preserve, where the children take their science classes every other Friday, offered an opportunity to partake in a training exercise for the staff. They are working towards becoming certified with the National Tree Climbing Association so they can offer tree climbs. We are officially hooked and can't wait until they begin!
I wish I had pictures. Dangling from ropes like bats, rising and falling with the ease of a monkey, hanging around in the canopy, exploring nooks and crannies only known by the bravest of squirrels, super fabulous. What a thrilling adventure!
During the downtime, while awaiting their turns, there was plenty of fort/shelter building and general romping about in the great old outdoors. Jacob promptly proclaimed, "Mom! Abbey and I made a really great rain proof shelter and we got to test it out. It worked perfectly, no rain got in!"
Joy.
Addie just missed the age limit so she and Malachi got to have a special playdate with Grace and Abe. Malachi was beyond thrilled to get to play with his favorite friend. I got to catch up on some things and bake bread and warm up leftovers to feed hungry tree climbing bellies.
A perfect Saturday.
And now we are hunkering down for a tornado warning. In November.
