Um, Really - Yep, Really

The short of it? Sam will be told in November if he still has a job or if he will be retiring. Why? President Obama has drastically reduced funding for the Coast Guard; he has way too many, much more important things to pay for. The Coast Guard, of course, will still be required to have all the latest and greatest of equipment and such to fulfill any and all tasks required of them by the afore mentioned, BUT that's their problem! So what has to go? People, that's what.

Here is all we know: Everyone with 20 or more years of service who has been in their pay grade for 3 years or longer is going before a review board. That is, not actually going before, but their file will be presented to a room full of really important people that know everything; and from those lovely pieces of paper they will say who stays and who goes.

So after 21 years of dedicated service and a planned 9 more, Sam is now at the mercy of a big bunch of important people and a lot of little black letters that say whatever it is they want to see. Not exactly how we saw things going, but that seems to be a theme for us lately. As my rock of a husband so quickly stated moments after we received word, "All things are for our good and we will be taken care of." Yes indeed.
