Saturday night we got home from fireworks at 11:00 p.m. to a lovely message stating that BMC Lockhart (for those not familiar, that is Sam's rate and rank and thus what he is known by to all military personnel) needed to call because he might be deployed. What?! Yeah, that's what we said.
Mind you, we were thoroughly enjoying the 1st day of our supposed 3 day weekend in celebration of our country's birthday. More than usual even because we have seen Sam for a handful of days the last 2 months due to his traveling around for inspections. We were also beginning his glorious 3 week break from inspections and had plans for wonderful family enjoyment with days of leave and all that jazz. Boo hoo :(
So, he calls back and of course it's too late to talk with anyone so he leaves a message. He called back before church on Sunday, again no answer (go figure it's the 4th of July!) and we are left hanging . Still no message upon our return at 1:15 p.m.. You know you just really want to know what is going on when that kind of message assaults you in the middle of your family bliss! Another call and no answer. Finally, a call back; "You have orders to report to New Orleans, LA on Tuesday July 6th."
Huh? Long story very short, he's there - left this morning - still has no idea what he's doing there other than some vague reference in his orders to training on an oil skimming vessel, and that he'll be there for at least 30 days. Although, when he checked in his working code was 'tech support'. Huh? And we got to do lots and lots of yucky housework, yardwork, and prepare your husband for a ____ long deployment work, on our fun vacation day with Dad. Happy 4th of July!
We did make the best of it though and made sure to get each child out for special time with Dad, even if it was just to run an errand in his car. They love riding in Dad's car and being able to go anywhere with him, so it all worked out and we ended the day with a picnic at a great park throwing rocks in the river and eating watermelon, homemade potato salad and Subway sandwiches.
Oh and then there's the fire ant allergy. It makes so much sense to send a guy somewhere that's crawling with the buggers that can do him in with one sting. As Sam said, "I'd probably be less at risk if it were a terrorist mission. They can fix a bullet hole." Come on, aren't there any other BMCs they could have sent? Oh well. On the bright side, he just told me about a guy that's been there for 30 days, got home Thursday and got a call the next Sunday to be back Tuesday. Awesome! Where is that RV we always talk about. It's time to pitch the living in a house idea and just follow him around in our homeschooling RV :) Keep your eyes peeled for us!
They have been asking for volunteers for various things for awhile now. He has not volunteered as he has more work than he can possibly get done around these parts, and he doesn't really enjoy going anywhere we can't go with him if he can help it. They have taken lots of people down there. There have been requests for certain ranks and rates, none of which are Sam, and yet, there he is. And here we are!
Okay, I am done complaining. You are more than welcome to name this post because I am sure I wouldn't come up with anything charming, witty, or maybe even nice at all. Yada yada, it's for a good cause. I am sure I'll join that boat later, maybe.
On a good note. I have been feeling better ever since Sunday and have been functioning pretty much as a normal person despite a needed nap in the afternoon. Yeehaw for that!

Oh my goodness!! How lame about Sam, and while you're pregnant nonetheless!! Yuck... well, I guess you can blame BP for that one. I'll go on strike with you.
