Baby Alligators

I came around the corner tonight as I was finishing up supper to see Ellie tucking herself into the 1/2 bathroom cabinet.  As I see her little head disappear behind the closing door, I inform her that Mommy needs to use the bathroom and ask her if she can come out for a minute ...

(okay if Sam is telling this story he would interject here that it was more like, "Hurry Ellie, Mommy really needs to go potty.  Come out quick.  Hurry, hurry, hurry" and then he'd add that I had been doing the potty dance for the last 10 minutes of dinner making.  I just had to get it in the oven!!  Ahh, what a mom won't do to get supper on the table :)  Anyway!

... So after I have patiently and politely asked for the bathroom ...  Ellie gets out and starts talking about just needing to get something or other, I don't know it's all jumbled for me because of course I am so calm!  After I realize that I indeed am not going to wet the floor and I could be a tad more calm about the situation, I apologize for telling her now is not the time for silly games that waste toilet paper rolls and no she cannot get whatever out of the cabinet; and then I step back to watch.

"I just need to get in here Mommy."  Gently opens the cabinet door and motions, "See, my baby alligators.  I need to get them so I can take care of them."  Walks down the hall with baby alligators cuddled oh so tenderly in her arms while Daddy is laughing a nice big belly buster! the baby alligators looked an awful lot like air to me, but then again I am just a silly old Mommy :)
