We found out last week Tuesday (August 14) that Sam will be forced to retire December 2013. We were aware that he was on "the list" again, but really had no idea that he would be losing his job. He has had nothing negative happen since the last time we went through this, and, in fact, has been awarded medals. Blindsided puts it mildly and we are in the process of figuring out what is next for our family. Our income will reduce to less than half, and our expenses will raise by somewhere in the range of $400- $600 (specifically related to expenses incurred upon retirement). If only "Washington math" could be applied to everyday living! If only.
Oh how much I wish to say. Oh how much I will keep to myself until such time that I can articulate without sounding like a whinny baby. Tata for now!

Amy I am so sorry!! I wish there was some way to help. Joe's dad had to retire from the civil services early as well. It will all work out, but we'll be praying extra hard for you.
